When you first open up a server you will probably think "WOAH" well you will see The Rules and The Change Log. READ THE RULES! After that you should "Setup Character" from top to bottom it will read:

The Syndicate option is if you want to be a bad guy DO NOT DO THIS until you have played SS13 for a month.
Occupation Preference is what occupation you want.
(R) is to randomize your current name
(R) = is unknown to me please leave me a comment on what it does
Save Setup is to save your character setup
Load Setup is to load your saved setup using the Save Setup option
Reset Setup is to reset your saved setup
